When you think of Buddhism the first thing that comes to your mind is a religion that is formed on the teachings that were spread in this world by Siddhartha Gautama. The advent of Buddhism came about 26 centuries ago and in the region of Nepal and North-eastern parts of India. Today most of its followers are to be found in Tibet and follow Tibetan Buddhism.
The word for Buddha means the enlightened or awakened one. Buddhism religion came about from the insights that Gautama gained from the study of nature of life and death and how to break this cycle. During the life of the Buddha he went about preaching Buddhism and showing people how to gain enlightenment for them. The Buddhism religion is spread all over the world but majorly in Asia. The main followers are in China. It is the fourth largest religion in the world. There are no deities and symbols that are worshiped in Buddhism and therefore, there are no Buddhism symbols except the stupa. The other religions support the worship of deities and symbols but that is not the case as you can see from the Buddhism history. The main crux of Buddhism is that one must not just follow doctrines that are laid down blindly but question their use and efficacy. This will allow one to practice what is right for them. Tibetan Buddhism also supports the following of the Eight fold path that was laid down by Buddha and the Buddhists all over the world continue to follow it. The main symbols that one can call as Buddhism symbol is the picture of the Buddha seated in penance, the Sanchi Stupa. The history of Buddhism states that one needs to follow the path of practice and spiritual development. Buddhism histories shows that one can through meditation change or develop and hone the qualities of awareness, kindness and wisdom in one. In the Buddhism religion, the main stress is on the ability to develop a way to follow the eight paths so that one can ultimately be enlightened and be able to lead the right path. The Buddhism supports no worship of a particular god and therefore, some people find it quite hard to follow it. Therefore, you will find no Buddhism symbols that are associated with the religion. The main idea that you will find in Buddhist history is that change is possible as nothing is fixed and permanent in the world. Therefore, Buddhism asks its followers to adopt and accept change rather than fighting it. The form of Tibetan Buddhism is the religion of Buddhism that is followed in the specific regions of Tibet and certain regions of the Himalayas and countries located there, which are Nepal, Bhutan and India. The main tenets of the Tibetan form of Buddhism are the three vehicles which are included in the teaching. The main parts of the Tibetan Buddhism are the Foundational vehicle, Mahayana and Vajrayna. After the Tibetan conflict in the year 1959 several Tibetans fled from their country and have helped spread the Tibetan Buddhism to all parts of the world, especially as far as the Western world. Buddhism as a religion has become so very popular that as many as 300 million people follow it. The Buddhism religion is pivoted around the four noble truths, the eight fold path and the precepts. The Buddhism religion is based on the teachings of suffering and the way one can stop that by the use of the five aggregates which are ethics, karma, rebirth, nirvana and enlightenment. The history of Buddhism starts way back in the year 566 B.C. when Siddhartha Gautama, who was a prince was born in the noble family but wanted to give up all the comforts and luxuries in order to find out the truth behind man’s life on earth. In order to achieve this, Buddhism history tells us that he sat under the bodhi tree and meditated for six years until he was gifted with enlightenment. Tibetan Buddhism strongly believes in the Samsara or the Wheel of Life. This represents that thing about happiness and sadness that one’s life is made up of. Buddhism strongly permeates that one should not believe in gods as this is certainly not a way to get enlightened. Buddhism history strongly suggests that one must believe in doctrines, ceremonies and rituals that are not real. They must rather believe in things that are truthful and allow one to focus on pure beliefs. The main tenets for Buddhism are the eight fold path. Buddhism never ever supports blind faith and belief. It is very important that one understands what Buddhism teaches before we go ahead and follow it. Buddhist history shows that about 2000 years ago Buddhism broke up into two major sects who were Theravada and Mahayana. Theravada form of Buddhism is followed in Thailand, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Burma and Laos. Mahayana, on the other hand, is followed in Japan, China, Tibet, Nepal and Korea. Buddhism history shows that Mahayana is followed in India. |
