Sikhism - All About Sikhs And Sikhism

When you consider the religion that is followed by Sikhs, Sikhism it is one of the youngest of religions when you compare them with other religions of the region such as Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism. It is monotheistic faith that tells one that there is only one god. The leader was Guru Nanak, and he was helped in spreading the religion by the ten gurus.

Gurdwara Sikh Gurus

Sikhism history shows that the religion believes in certain ideals such as honesty, humility and social commitment along with the tolerance for other religions. Sikhism history also mentions about how the nine gurus helped the religion to grow and inculcated new ideas and teachings into it. The tenth guru, Guru Granth sahib was the last of the gurus. After Guru Granth sahib that was the end of the gurus and that happened in the year 1708. Thereafter in the Sikh religion you will find the mention of Guru Gobind Singh as the permanent guru of the Sikhs.

The Gurbani, Gurdwara is. What is followed in most places of Sikhism? It conveys to its followers a very simple and yet astute message that there is only one god and only one reality, and we are the manifestations of that reality. What many find appealing in the Gurbani, Gurdwara is that it does not comprise of any dogmas what so ever. Therefore, the simple and straightforward message can be understood by one and all. The Gurbani, Gurdwara also talks about the reality and how one needs to live in the here and now of the moment. That is the only way that one can relinquish ego and negativity from our lives.

Guru Gobind Singh was the tenth guru, and he died in the year `708. He was born in Patna and became the tenth guru after succeeding his father, Tegh Bahadur. He is also remembered as a great warrior and philosopher along with being a good enough poet. This is one guru in the Sikh religion that has had a lot of impact on Sikhism.

Guru Gobind Singh was the guru who influenced many people’s lives and his teachings are still considered great ideology with a lasting impression on the Sikh religion. Guru Gobind Singh formed the Khalsa which even today is considered to be an extremely important event in the Sikhism history. With the formation of the Khalsa, the Sikhs were able to fight several battles with the moguls.

The Guru Granth sahib is the holy book of the Sikhs. It is also called the Adi Granth, and it is the final word on the religion of the Sikhs. It is made up of 1430 pages and was composed during the times of the Sikh Gurus. Guru Gobind Singh during his lifetime proclaimed that after his death the Guru Granth sahib will be considered to be the text and Holy Scripture. The Guru Granth sahib plays a major role in the worship of the Sikhs and holds a place of pride in any Gurdwara.

The Guru Granth sahib was first put together by the fifth guru called Guru Anjan Dev. The Guru Granth sahib is considered to be the living guru and all the scriptures in it are followed religiously. In fact, it is considered as the eleventh guru after the ten human gurus.

In Sikhism history, you will find that Guru Nanak is considered to the first guru. All other Gurus that followed after Guru Nanak has been considered to have a little bit of his divinity in them. Guru Nanak showcased his devotion and religious fervor right since childhood, and thus he was encouraged to travel far and wide and spread his teachings. Sikhism today is considered to be a major religion and the Guru Granth sahib at the center of it.

The Sikh religion has spread far and wide and the simple teachings are held dear and close to heart by its devotees. The Sikhs believe in the teachings of Guru Nanak that said God is merciful and all powerful. He will address people’s sufferings and oppression when the time is right and during the transient nature of life. The guru was a great believer in actions rather than ceremonies that were mindlessly followed with no relevant purpose behind them.
